The carpool site near Rolde is getting a new location at the renovated public transport hub on the N376. Drenthe province confirmed this after questions from Rolde.nl. Two new entrances along the road have already been built for it.

The carpool site near Rolde is moving to the other side of the N33. The new carpool site will be located at the renovated public transport hub on the N376 and will replace the current location by the roundabout with the Grolloërstraat. Drenthe province confirmed this after questions from Rolde.nl. "The future carpool site will replace the current one", the province writes. When the existing site will go out of use is not yet known.

Along the N376 between the roundabouts near Rolde and Nooitgedacht, the first preparations are already visible. Since recent road maintenance, there are two new asphalt entrances there that still end in the green verge. According to the province, they have been built for the redesign of the public transport hub.

The current carpool site lies north of the N33. The new entrances are on the N376, on the other side of the N33.

Making transfers easier

The province wants to make changing between bicycle, bus and car easier at Rolde. According to the province, the current carpool site is too small and the facilities are now spread out over the area. As a result, travellers sometimes have to walk around. In addition, there are not good walking routes everywhere, and visibility and the sense of social safety could be improved in parts of the site.

There is currently no good place to pick up and drop off travellers, and no suitable stand for the hub taxi either. The new plan therefore includes a waiting area, a covered bicycle shed, a stand for the hub taxi, a Kiss+Ride facility and a parcel locker. For the waiting area, the province explicitly mentions attention to social safety.

In addition, the province wants to reserve space for bicycle lockers and shared bicycles. There should also be more options for charging electric cars. How many parking spaces the new carpool site will get has not yet been announced. The province says it wants to preserve and integrate the existing greenery as much as possible.

Work on the N376 did not mention this yet

The prepared connections tie in with the works carried out this autumn on the N376 between Rolde and Nooitgedacht. Those works were scheduled from Monday 21 September to Friday 9 October 2026. On 11 August, the province announced that this involved road surface maintenance, safer bends, a new top layer on the cycle path on the east side and adjusted traffic signs. The preparation for the redesign of the public transport hub was not mentioned in that announcement.

Work on the hub itself is scheduled for 2027. A start date and the duration of the work are not yet known.

Hub between Assen and Gieten

The location is listed in the official hub information as hub P+R Rolde. The hub is a stop for bus services between Assen and hub P+R Gieten. From Gieten there are connections to, among others, Emmen, Stadskanaal, Winschoten and Groningen. The hub information states that the hub is under development.

The design for Rolde is not final yet. The province is sharing a preliminary design and wants to know what users consider important. At the end of 2026, the province expects to open an online questionnaire. An open house evening is also being prepared for residents, businesses and organisations in Rolde and the surrounding area. The date, location and registration method were not yet known on 28 October.
