Drentsche Aa National Park Visitor Centre

Museum in Assen on the archaeology, art and history of Drenthe, with the Yde Girl and the Pesse canoe among its exhibits.

The Drents Museum stands on the Brink in Assen, on the site of the former convent of Maria in Campis. It was founded on 28 November 1854 as the Provinciaal Museum van Oudheden (Provincial Museum of Antiquities) and started with a single cabinet in the provincial hall. Art, applied art and cultural history were added later. It has been called the Drents Museum since 1996.

The museum occupies a number of historic buildings around the Brink: the old provincial hall, the Ontvangershuis, the Drostenhuis and the Abdijkerk. There was no room to expand within the old convent complex, so the architect Erick van Egeraat designed an underground museum wing, with a museum garden above it. Queen Beatrix opened the renewed museum on 16 November 2011. Since then the entrance has been in the former coach house of the Drostenhuis, which is linked to the new wing by a tunnel.

Drouwenerzand Amusement Park Drouwen

Amusement park in Drouwen where food and drink are included in the admission price, for children from about 3 years old. It has a holiday park next door.

Drouwenerzand is in Drouwen, on the Hondsrug ridge. You pay for admission once and can then use all the rides and play equipment all day. Food and drink are included too, such as fresh fruit, filled rolls, chips, snacks, coffee, tea, squash and ice lollies. So there is no need to bring your own food.

The park is for children from about 3 years old, with gentle rides for the youngest and more daring ones for older children. Schools come here on school trips, up to the last year of primary school. The park has its own packages for groups and children's parties.

Next to the amusement park is Vakantiepark Drouwenerzand, a holiday park with tree houses, castle and saloon lodges, glamping tents, holiday homes, hotel rooms and camping pitches. Guests staying there have access to the amusement park.
