Kledingbieb Modebewust will open a permanent location on the upper floor of Blij van Toen at Het Veld 13B near Rolde starting on Saturday, November 7. Visitors can borrow secondhand clothes there and also buy them afterwards.

From Saturday, November 7, 2026, Kledingbieb Modebewust will have a permanent location in Rolde. The clothing library run by sisters Anke and Jorien Kooistra from Gieten will move into the upper floor of vintage shop Blij van Toen, at Het Veld 13B on the Ambachtenterrein near Rolde.

At Modebewust, visitors can borrow secondhand clothing for a month. After that, the item can be returned or kept longer. New in Rolde is that customers can also buy the borrowed clothing after that period.

The initiative has existed since early 2023 and started as a pop-up clothing library in Gieten. Later, Modebewust also made use of Bibliotheek Gieten and upcycling workshops were organised, among other things. In March 2025, Modebewust won second prize in the Drentse Kringlogo prize, an award for citizen initiatives that reuse items and raw materials.

Also space for Selsmakke

In addition to the clothing library, Blij van Toen will also make room for Selsmakke, the in-house label within the initiative. For this, Jorien Kooistra makes new clothing and other creations from previously used materials. Examples mentioned include coats made from old blankets and adapted blazers. Selsmakke is Frisian for homemade and refers to the sisters' Frisian background.

Modebewust ties in with the growing attention for the reuse of textiles. Nationally too, the government is steering toward more reuse and recycling of clothing and fabrics, with rules that make producers responsible for collection, reuse and recycling.

Different opening hours than the shop

Blij van Toen moved in September from the Hoofdstraat in Rolde to the Ambachtenterrein. The shop of Eline Siebbeles and her husband Derk has more space there, including for handmade products by makers from the region.

The opening hours of Modebewust are not the same as those of Blij van Toen. Blij van Toen is open from Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 to 16:30. Modebewust announces opening hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 13:00 to 16:30. The sisters advise visitors to check their Facebook or Instagram page in advance for current times.
