The new lane makes it easier for traffic coming from Assen and Rolde along the N33 to join the N34 towards Emmen, so that queues are less likely to build up on the N33. On the south side of the roundabout, the bus lane to the public transport hub is being extended so that buses can leave the N34 sooner. The new layout will stay in place until the fly-over at the roundabout is built, which is expected in 2030.

More greenery and light at the public transport hub
Most of the concrete pillars at the hub are being removed; only those by the kiosk will stay. Lamp posts will take their place, and there will be seating among new planters of Corten steel and concrete. The bus platform is getting a coloured coating, the walking routes to it clear markings, and the kiosk windows photographs of the surrounding area.
Bart van Dekken, a member of the provincial executive: “In February 2025 we carried out a survey among passengers at the public transport hub. It showed a clear wish: more greenery, better lighting and greater personal safety.”
