The car in which the thieves fled after the art theft at the Drents Museum in Assen has been found burnt out under a viaduct near Rolde. Police are looking for witnesses.
The break-in at the museum happened in the night of Friday 24 to Saturday 25 January 2025. The thieves fled in a dark grey Volkswagen Golf that had been stolen in Alkmaar a few days earlier. The car was found burnt out shortly after the theft.
Police have released footage showing another vehicle stopping just after the car was set on fire and then driving off towards Nooitgedacht. That was at around 3.50am on Saturday. Police believe the thieves switched vehicles there.
Did you see anything suspicious around the viaduct near Rolde that night, or do you know more about the vehicle in which the thieves drove on? If so, police are asking you to get in touch.
A gold helmet and three gold bracelets from the Dacian period were stolen in the break-in. They were on loan from the National Museum of Romanian History and were part of the exhibition “Dacië: Rijk van Goud en Zilver” (Dacia: Empire of Gold and Silver).
