Supermarket chain Poiesz is taking over the Plus in Rolde. If all goes to plan, the supermarket will open under its new name at the end of April.

Poiesz and Plus have reached agreement on the takeover. The shop used to be a Coop, run for many years by the Barelds, a husband-and-wife business, and was modernised only recently.

Much of the interior will stay, but the shop will get the standard features of a Poiesz: a large vegetable department, its own bakery and butcher's, a drinks shop, a self-scan area and a staffed service till. The handover was planned for the end of March, but a few matters still have to be settled. As a result, the opening has been pushed back to the end of April.

Poiesz recently celebrated its hundredth anniversary. Managing director Piet Smit says the investment in new shops is important for the growth and the future of the family business.

Rolde has about 2,000 households and two supermarkets. The other is the Albert Heijn owned by Chris Marinus, also a former Plus. It has 943 square metres of shop floor; the Poiesz will have 650. Nearby Gieten has a Jumbo and a Lidl.
