The Roldermarkt, Rolde’s annual village fair, is in full swing. This year’s theme is “Een Oer-Drentse Roldermarkt” (a true Drenthe Roldermarkt), and market week ends on Tuesday with the Rolder Paardenmarkt, the horse fair.
The market opened with music on the evening of Thursday 5 September. Friday was all about sport: a dance workshop for young people to the Jan Thieslied, the Rolder Golfcup, the Fruitbedrijf De Marwijkshof Trimloop fun run and the Garage Buisman Meerkamp, a multi-event contest. The Après Sport disco followed at 10pm.
Saturday began with a fjord horse show and a fishing competition, and for children the Dikke Bandenrace, a fat-tyre bike race with several age groups. This evening the Bedrijvenparade, a parade of local businesses, makes its way through the village, followed at 8pm by the Harms Rietdekbedrijf Rolde Taptoe, a marching band tattoo. After that there is a party night with a free performance by The Euros.
Sunday 8 September
The day starts at 8.30am with the Roldermarkt breakfast, followed by the Concours Hippique, an equestrian competition. For children there are a children’s market and the Rolder Ommetje treasure hunt. In the afternoon there is a bike ride, and the day ends with the Dries Rolde Playbackshow, a lip-sync show.
Tuesday 10 September
The last market day begins at 6am with the Rolder Paardenmarkt. There are also an agricultural and gardening fair, a goods market and a children’s multi-event contest on the Kinderbrink. The Paardenfestijn, a horse festival, has clinics and shows, and in the afternoon the performers include Melrose, Mark Doldersum and DJ Sowiezo.
The full programme is on ovvr.nl. The 2024 Roldermarktkrant, the fair’s newspaper, can be read online.
