The driver of the car on the Borgerderstraat was able to pull over when it suddenly caught fire. He got out of the car safely himself.
Rolde fire brigade extinguished the fire. Gieten fire brigade came with a tanker to help, but did not need to take action. The car was so badly damaged that it was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire is not known.
The Borgerderstraat was temporarily closed during firefighting and recovery.
A little earlier, things went wrong on the N857 near Papenvoort. There, a motorist left the road for unknown reasons and ended up in the ditch with his car. He too was unharmed. The car was removed by a recovery company.
